When Dr. Gerald Lavandosky accompanied his wife for a routine doctor’s visit, he had no idea it would turn into a life and death situation.
As he was leaving the doctor’s office parking lot that day, he heard a mother’s desperate pleas for help. Her baby, Jasiah, had stopped breathing. He now laid lifeless, unresponsive, and without a heart rate.
Although paramedics had already arrived, Dr. Lavandosky of Pediatric Critical Care of South Florida who manage the pediatric intensive care unit at Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital, quickly sprang into action.
Dr. Lavandosky intubated Jasiah and was able to bring him back to life. He then jumped into the ambulance and was able to stabilize Jasiah while he rode with the paramedics to the nearest hospital.
